Open Class about Virtual Tourism

Last Monday, June 3rd, an open class entitled "Virtual Tourism: an expanding market segment” was held in The School of Hospitality and Tourism

At the invitation of the students of the second year of the degree in Tourism Activities Management and in the context of the Interpersonal Relations’ Curricular Unit, Vanessa Tavira, Master in Tourism and Communication, addressed the concept of Virtual Tourism, which was the focus of her Master's dissertation that was completed in 2014.

The main goal of the open class, which began at 2:00 p.m. in room D109, was to present the evolution of Virtual Tourism over the years and the perspectives for the future, presenting its strengths in the market, and also the implications that may arise with its development. Through current situations, the speaker sought to make known to the participants practical cases where this type of tourism is already used, highlighting in Portugal the Interactive Museum and Theme Park "World of Discoveries" and also the company "Eat & Travel” that is no longer on the market. Throughout the lecture, the big influence that Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) have had on the development of this market segment was highlighted, which, although it’s expanding, is still at an embryonic stage in Portugal.

The organizing group of this class would like to thank all participants for their presence and active participation; Vanessa Tavira for addressing a topic that’s still not very known and developed in Portugal, as well as the various partnerships that allowed the lesson to happen, namely the city council of Vila do Conde, the blog "Vamos Nessa, Vanessa?", the florist Ana Maria, the restaurant Republika and, finally, the graphics Graphic Arts.
